Trilogy makes its move into Whistler’s luxury hotel market

Whistler, B.C. - Trilogy Properties Corp., developer, owner and manager of Vancouver’s Opus Hotel, is moving into Whistler, where it will renovate, re-brand and assume management of what was previously known as the Timberline Hotel in the heart of Whistler Village.

Trilogy closed the hotel on June 23rd and commenced a $2 million renovation of all 41 rooms, suites and common areas at that time. The boutique hotel will reopen under a new name – and with the magical Opus touch – on American Thanksgiving Nov 23, at the start of the 2005/06 ski season.

Trilogy was selected by the property’s strata lot owners to undertake the re-positioning and management of the hotel at the high end of Whistler’s accommodation market.

Analysts believe there is a market niche at North America’s top ski resort for a small, intimate, boutique hotel with a contemporary feel appealing to travellers looking for the ideal ‘boutique’ experience.

Previously, Timberline Lodge operated as a condominium hotel, but Trilogy said that as a part of its re-positioning strategy, a full service boutique hotel offering a wide range of services including a fully-staffed front desk and 24 hour room service is now required to serve the international guest visiting Whistler.

“We want the hotel to establish a reputation for superior service, innovative design and décor but above all, excellence.” said Trilogy President and Chief Executive Officer John deC. Evans.

“We are going to introduce to Whistler, on a boutique scale, a contemporary design approach that you find today in an urban market or at top European ski resorts.”

Timberline Lodge was originally built in 1982 by a union pension fund. A previous Trilogy entity bought the property in 1995, renovated it and converted it to a strata hotel in 1996.

By offering a boutique alternative to the high-end luxury brands such as Four Seasons, Westin, Hilton and Fairmont, Whistler broadens its range of hospitality options to rival the best in Europe.

“What we want to provide our guests with is a contemporary resort experience with all the warmth and glamour you would expect of a luxury Alpine resort, plus some unexpected yet luxurious touches that will be unique to Whistler,” Mr. Evans said.

Vancouver based Trilogy Properties Corp. is a fully integrated real estate company, pro-active in the development, leasing and management of investment-grade retail and hotel properties. Trilogy has a long-standing reputation for excellence in resort development and commercial property management at Whistler having developed much of Village North including Whistler’s Marketplace, Market Pavilion, Alpenglow and Glacier’s Reach. Today, Trilogy Management Services manages much of the commercial retail space in Whistler. As well, John Evans was instrumental in the development of the Resort on Blackcomb in the late ‘80s while an Officer and Director of the then Blackcomb Skiing Enterprises.
